Electrocodeposition of Ni composites and surface treatment of SiC nano-particles

This work has explored the surface modification of SiC submicron- and nanoparticles, its influence on particles' chemical behaviour deposition rate in electroplating composite Ni/SiC coatings. particles with different sizes (50, 60, 300 500 nm) were codeposited their “as-produced” state. The ζ-potential measurements alkaline titration for showed differences sizes, reporting pH buffering effect, even though inert chemically same (SiC). A treatment (ST) based nitric acid was developed an attempt to set a similar state, therefore all particles. “surface treated” results, independently size effect also decreased considerably by ST. codeposition modified ST differently each compared as-produced content SiC50 SiC500 doubled (≈2% ≈19%), tripled SiC300 (≈7%) more than halved SiC60 (≈2%). microhardness these deposits linked changes codeposition.
